I have recently decided to promote and sell a food test containing over 500 foods and household items.

Most of my patients have gut issues, are depressed, have food sensitivities, inflammation and pain. I feel that diet and lifestyle are the basis for any effective treatment for these complaints. So I pretty much always advise my patients of the best way to eat for their condition. However, every patient is unique, and I have discovered that even foods, which are normally coined as super-foods, for example kale, chia seeds, coconut or avocado etc, are not for everyone. There might be no allergic reaction to these foods, but rather an “aggravation” causing indigestion, mood changes, headaches, rashes, insomnia, bloating, stool changes, hay fever, exacerbation of existing conditions and so on. These symptoms might be so vague and appear so many hours after exposure to the offending food or substance that the person has no idea of what caused them. So, when I realised that, I wanted my patients to submit to functional pathology testing and test their IgE and IgG antibodies to 96 foods. Depending on which company I used, if we decided to do both antibody tests together or just one, the cost could be anything from $300 to $500. Only a few patients were agreeable. That left me in a position to use my own judgement, as well as initially putting them on a fairly restrictive elimination diet – but even then there could be foods that are considered healthy but were not compatible with their bodies.

I, for one, have discovered this in regards to my own health. I have psoriasis, and refuse to take heavy drugs and creams for this condition. I have seen that when my patients have had their psoriasis treated with strong medication like biologics, the skin might end up being clear, but the autoimmune condition is very often driven deeper within the body, where it starts attacking the joints (Psoriatic arthritis). Consequently, I am using all natural remedies and supplements, am fairly strict with my diet, and have introduced certain lifestyle changes. While I am doing okay i.e. I am far less itchy or inflamed than I used to be, I knew there was still something I wasn’t addressing. I did a combined IgE and IgG test a few years ago but even though I abstained from the foods listed, my psoriasis was still not significantly reducing.  Besides the fact that autoimmune conditions are hard to treat at the best of times, I knew instiinctively that there were foods in my diet that I was eating frequently that were not beneficial to my recovery. So, I recently started searching for a reliable hair test for myself and my patients. I tried a few tests and was not convinced that I should use them in my clinic. When I discovered this 500+ food test, which has 30 years of research and experience behind it, and had my hair sample analysed, I discovered that foods such as chicken and avocado, that I was eating nearly every day or every second day, and foods that I eat a few times a week, like garlic, onion, orange and others, were incompatible to my body. If this test is accurate, this could easily explain why my improvement has not gone as well as I would have hoped.

I love the concept of compatibility and incompatibility rather than intolerances and food sensitivities. This makes more sense to me. Also the fact that this test is focused on the cellular level is also a plus for me. Our bodies are not a collection of organs, but rather a collection of cells. If our cells are not healthy, and more specifically,  the cell membranes that surround our cells, and the mitochondria, which are small organelles inside the cells that produce energy, then we will be in a state of dis-ease. We can artificially reduce the symptoms, such as by using creams or medications for psoriasis, but without addressing deeper issues at the cellular level, we might not get the long-term results that we are hoping for.

I also like the way this test includes whole foods, not just proteins such as gluten, gliadin or casein etc, and does not group foods together under, for example, cruciferous foods. How are you to know if it is all of them or just some? Will it matter how it is prepared and what ingredients it comes together with? This test only uses whole foods in the states that we would eat them, and branded foods and household items that we buy in our local supermarkets.  A reason I was not happy with some of the other tests was that many of the food items that were not relatable to me.  One test actually said I have a problem with horse meat.

Another thing that makes this test preferable to my patients is that it is completely safe, no needles or blood draw, and can be used for babies, the elderly, pregnant and lactating women and even animals. This is done by using a small hair sample, or if no hair available, as in the case of a baby, a saliva sample will suffice.

So my intention now is to introduce an affordable test that all my patients can take early on in their treatment protocols to ensure that they inadvertently are not sabotaging their efforts and the effects of their prescription.
