Genetics, Nutrigenomics and DNA Testing

The age of personalised medicine has arrived. While practitioners have long known that everyone is different, only recently have we been able to address an individual’s health needs according to their unique genetic profile. The tailoring of treatment to patients has always been a fundamental feature of functional and complementary medicine. Now, advances in genetic testing mean we can determine how a person’s genes may influence their health as well as identify more suitable treatment protocols to help optimise overall wellbeing.
Consequently, we are able to use this valuable information and tailor a nutritional and lifestyle program that will take into account your unique genetic profile combined with your clinical history and other functional tests. You will therefore have an understanding of how to eat and live the way your body was meant to, and possibly start living the life you were supposed to.
We can also use this valuable information to help understand the reason for your mood issues, such as anxiety or depression.
DNA testing is a sophisticated investigative tool which identifies variations in chromosomes, genes and proteins, otherwise known as single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) through obtaining a non-invasive sample from the body.
What do we test?
We recognise the value genetic testing can provide, highlighting the inter-relationships between genes, nutrition and lifestyle. Thus, we provide a test that includes a range of test panels that focus on key areas of health management, including mood, detoxification, methylation, hormones and fertility. By adhering to rigorous scientific standards, only those gene variants have been selected where a strong gene/environment association has been repeatedly shown.
I have been fortunate to train under the giants in this field, such as Dr. Ben Lynch, one of the foremost pioneers in this field,  as well as Dr Denise Furness, PhD, a geneticist and nutritionist, and Caroline Ledowsky, two of Australia’s highly trained specialists and researchers in genetics and nutrigenomics. I am also a member of the MTHFR Support Genomics and Methylation Institute. Additionally, I am approved by SmartDNA and Fitgenes (for more information, see below)). With my former degree in Biochemistry and my understanding of nutritional biochemistry from my second degree, and my extensive research in this field, I aM able to combine the best of both worlds, genetics and biochemistry, to give you the best possible outcome.
