As Australia is approaching the colds and flu season, I thought it would be an opportune time to explain why we have such annoying symptoms as coughs, sneezes and lots of mucous.  Are these symptoms caused by the offending viruses or bacteria?  Most of us seem to think so.  Also, when we injure ourselves and the area is painful, red and swollen, is this because the bacteria that have entered via the broken skin are directly causing these symptoms, or are they a result of something else occurring in the body?

This month, instead of writing a blog similar to the ones I have done in the past, I have posted an audio power-point presentation which you will find below.  This presentation will explain the basics of why you experience these symptoms and how your body firstly responds to disease-causing bacteria and viruses, and to injury.
